How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

With films today, audiences have so much choice that a brand image is necessary. Constructing a strong and a consistent brand image for films allows audiences to identify that posters, trailers and other promotional aspects are derived from the same film, it allows the film’s image to be reinforced and have a strong presence. Elements which help to construct a brand image for films include: the use of iconic characters, the title, the colours, use-mise-en scene and catchy taglines that share some relevance to one another.

Characters

At the start of our trailer you see a girl walking into a room and then see her getting attacked on a chair, with her being one of the only character in the trailer, conveys her importance and her getting attacked by the hammer  is probably the most memorable shot of the whole teaser trailer, therefore we wanted her image on our poster and magazine cover to show her importance. But when making the poster and magazine cover, we used images of her looking happy- this contrasts with what is happening to her in the trailer making the audience question what is going on.
When a film is advertised in a magazine or when film posters are created, the protagonist(s) is normally used; therefore we wanted this to be the case with our tasks.. This also helps to form the brand image, as it links a key character from the trailer to the posters.

Colours

The colours used in the writing for our poster and magazine cover also helps to add to the brand image. We used the basic colours of red and white. Red connotes blood and danger therefore; we thought it was suitable to use it for our tasks, due to the fact that our film comes under the horror genre. We decided to use white as well as it stands out well against the black background.

The font you choose for your title is obviously another important aspect when constructing a brand image, this will feature on all of the products therefore it needs to stand out. We wanted to pick a unique font therefore it would be more recognisable. Both the fonts we used on our poster and magazine cover I feel will catch the audiences attention as they both look quite disorted. "Physcopath" is also quite an odd name to call a film and again I think people would be intregied by this. I do feel however we should have used the same font for both products to form the brand name more and so it all linked together.

Lighting

The lighting in our trailer is all fairly dark and we used flashing lights throughout it, therefore we wanted these aspects to show in our ancillary tasks otherwise the products would not go together. We kept our magazine cover fairly dark, with a black background and using the colours red and white on the front cover, the red reflects blood and danger linking back to what is in our trailer. We used the same sort of scheme with the poster, we managed to set up a light in the poster which you can see in the image, this relates back to the flashing lighting used in our trailer.

Overall I think that the construction of all these elements have allowed there to be a strong brand image between all of our products. However I feel what we could have changed was to make sure the two fonts we used on our poster and magazine cover were the same to create a stronger link between all the products. This is the same for the trailer actually as we used another different font saying "Physcopath" at the end of the trailer.  I also feel that we should have perhaps shown the girls face in the trailer even if only for a couple of seconds, just so the audience could make the link that she was the girl on our posters and magazine cover.
