EVALUATION OF MEDIA PROJECT

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
A teaser trailer is usually around a minute to a minute and a half long. It dosent usually express a chronological narrative and only shows very short scenes of parts of the film in order for the audience to understand what kind of genre the film is going to be but without giving hardly anything away. The fact that they give away what genre the film is going to be is very important as it establishes the target audience. The elements that estbalish the genre are things we incorporated into our trailer such as low key lighting- this is typical of horror films as sometimes it is unclear as to what is going on, keeping you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. In our trailer we also used no dialouge as we thought this was an effective way of not giving away too much of the story and leaving the audience to try and figure out the plot. Another trailer which uses no dialouge is the trailer for the film "The sacred". I have posted the link on my blog so you can see it and compare it to our trailer. The sacred trailer is slightly longer than ours as it is 2 minutes 12 seconds long.

Horror teaser trailers strive to arouse terror, tension and fear and they have ways in which they do this. Some of  the conventions they use to make you feel these emotions are as follows : Blood, screaming, killing, weapons, violence, darkness, fast camera shots making it hard to see what is going on,chase scenes, isolated places and settings, characters being alone and the type of music they use.
When making and planning our teaser trailer we took all of the typical conventions into consideration, we knew that to create a successful teaser trailer we needed to incorporate a lot of these elements. I'm now going to include a clip of our trailer with me talking over it to say some of the stuff we did on our trailer which is typical of a horror film trailer.

To compare my magazine cover and posters to real products I uploaded them onto flickr.com and anotated them . Click on the links below and hover over the picture to reveal the annotations:

Overall

For all of our products we wanted to keep a lot of typical conventions related to the horror genre, due to the fact that audiences, like to keep to their comfort zones to a certain extent and we wanted their expectations to be fulfilled. We did have some differences in our products though compared to real products, for example a lot of film posters have the killer on them, we however did not do this. With our trailer we included no dialouge, with most teaser trailers they have a tiny bit of dialouge so we did that differently aswell.
